Buckingham Palace announced on Wednesday (January 17) that British monarch King Charles III would be set for a hospital visit next week for an enlarged prostate.

The statement was released shortly after Kensington Palace announced that his daughter-in-law - Catherine, Princess of Wales - has been hospitalized for two weeks following a planned and successful abdominal surgery, the BBC reported.

Buckingham: Charles to Undergo "Corrective Surgery"

The palace said that the 75-year-old king's condition was benign but he would need to undergo a "corrective procedure," meaning that his public engagements would be postponed for a short period of recuperation.

"In common with thousands of men each year, The King has sought treatment for an enlarged prostate," the statement said.

According to the British National Health Service (NHS), benign prostate enlargement is common in men over 50 and is not usually a serious condition. However, the condition does not mean that the patient has an increased risk of developing prostate cancer.
