London's Metropolitan Police said emergency services were called to the scene of a vehicle fire on Wimbledon Hill Road/Alwyne Road in Wimbledon on Thursday morning (January 11).

The vehicle involved was an electric double-decker bus, and it burst into flames during rush hour. No injuries were reported, but a critical incident was declared, police added.

"We heard a huge bang," local resident Max Pashley told radio station City AM. "We were terrified."

Road closures and cordons were in place and were expected to be for some time. People have also been advised to avoid the area, the BBC reported.

Transport for London has yet to respond to reporters' requests for comment.
