Ana Ofelia Murguia, the voice actor behind Mama Coco of Disney's animated film "Coco" sadly died at 90. This was confirmed by Mexico's National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature.

Her sudden death broke the hearts of many people since Murguia was recognized as one of the last surviving celebrities of the Golden Age of Mexican cinema.. 

Aside from the Mexican film industry, she also greatly contributed to the movie sector of the U.S. This is because she was a key part of the popular film "Coco," an animated movie focusing on a Mexican boy who crossed the Land of the Dead to uncover his family's secrets.

Mexico's National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature announced the death of Ana Ofelia Murguia on Jan. 1 via the institute's official X (formerly called Twitter) post.

"With deep sadness, we mourn the death of leading actress Ana Ofelia Murguía, who was part of the stable cast of the National Theater Company of Mexico, and whose artistic career was vital for the performing arts of Mexico," said the fine arts organization via its official X announcement.

The institute said that it is sending its condolences and warm hugs to the actress' family and friends. In the comment section, many Mexican fans paid respect to the voice actress and bid her farewell.

"RIP, such an excellent actress and great lady.Seriously, there will be an acting gap in film and theater.I remember many roles she played," said a netizen.

Another X user said that Murguia was a wonderful woman, as well as a very talented actress. Other netizens stated that Ana was one of the best actresses they ever had in Mexico, bringing pride to her country.

Ana Ofelia Murguia's Acting Career

Ana Ofelia Murguia will surely be remembered not only by her Mexican fans but also by the fans of "Coco" since she helped the popular animated film become an Oscar-winning Disney Pixar movie.

According to BBC News, Murguia achieved a lot in her acting career. In 2011, she won a special lifetime achievement Golden Award at a ceremony recognizing the best of the Mexican film industry.

Before this, she was already racking up acting awards. These include winning best supporting actress at the Ariel Awards in  1996, 1986, and back in 1979.

She received these awards after playing numerous roles in various films, such as the 1994's "La Reina de La Noche." But, she became well-known across the globe after voicing Mama Coco in 2017.

This Disney movie won awards because of its evocation of Mexican culture, as well as folklore.
