Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta has been named by OAG as the busiest airport in the US in 2023. It also topped the OAG's global list this year, Business Insider reported.

The US ranking was based on each airport's total domestic and international airline seat capacity, which collectively accounted for about 413 million seats across the Top 10.

25 Years in Number 1

This year's award win is Atlanta's 25th since 1998, only briefly losing its spot once in 2020 when China's Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport became the busiest amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

A major factor as to why Atlanta remained a busy airport was because it is Delta's giant hub, as well as its location, was favorable across the US Southeast, and the lack of competing airports nearby.

It is estimated that the Christmas holiday passenger traffic will reach its peak this year by Friday (December 22) as per the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Other Nominations in the OAG LIst

OAG said that, in total, Atlanta saw a 62 million seat capacity in 2023, with the next busiest airport being Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW), with about 48 million available seats this year.

Denver, LAX, Chicago O'Hare, New York JFK, Las Vegas, Orlando, Charlotte Douglas, and Miami complete the top 10 busiest US airports, in descending order.

Meanwhile, the top 5 US busiest airports also made it to OAG's global top 10, alongside Dubai (2nd), Tokyo Haneda (3rd), London Heathrow (4th), Istanbul (7th), and Guangzhou Baiyun (10th).
