Amazon joins the ongoing generative AI race by introducing its own artificial intelligence tool that can create images from simple prompts.

Despite the continuous warnings of researchers and AI tech officials themselves regarding the risks of artificial intelligence, many companies still want to take advantage of the ongoing AI race.

Amazon is the latest one. During its "AWS re:Invent" 2023 conference, the e-commerce giant introduced the new Titan Image Generator. Here's what consumers need to know about this new generative AI software.

Amazon Introduces New AI Image Generator!

According to The Verge's latest report, Amazon's Titan Image Generator is quite similar to other existing AI tools, such as ChatGPT, Grok, DALL-E, etc.

This means that it can also generate realistic, studio-quality photos. Amazon also said that the Titan Image Generator also has built-in guardrails that can prevent bias and toxic outputs that can harm consumers.

However, there's something different about Titan Image Generator that makes it quite unique compared to other generative AI tools in the market. Unlike ChatGPT, DALL-2, and other similar tools, Amazon's new product is not a standalone app or website.

Instead, the Titan Image Generator is a software that developers can build on to make their own AI image generators. The American retailer said that to take advantage of this new tech, developers must access it via Amazon Bedrock.

AWS Vice President Swami Sivasubramanian—of analytics, database, and machine learning—previewed Amazon's new AI tech during his keynote at the conference.

He showed that the Titan Image Generator can not only create images but also change their backgrounds; giving users more flexibility when it comes to generating photos that better suit their wants.

Amazon clarified that it is offering the new generative AI tool not as software for consumers, but as a new tool for enterprise audiences.

"We wanted a way to mark an image as created with AI, and specifically made with Titan Image Generator that will not interfere with the visual, have no latency, and cannot be cropped or compressed out," said AWS Generative AI VP Vasi Philomin.

Aside from the Titan Image Generator, Amazon also announced another AI tool called "Q." The e-commerce giant introduced this chatbot on Tuesday, Nov. 28, as reported by CNBC.

Amazon said that Q is a new AI chatbot specifically designed for work purposes. Depending on which AWS executive is asked, the new AI's name is based on the character named Q in the "James Bond" movies or the Q character in "Star Trek."

As of writing, some of Q's features are still available for free. However, once the preview period ends, clients need to pay the $20 monthly fee, which is a tier price for business users.
