Coldplay singer Chris Martin helped his girlfriend, Dakota Johnson, who does not always see a sky full of stars, overcome her depression since her teenage years.

The 'Fifty Shades of Grey' actress gave a sneak peek at her relationship with Martin, who has been mysteriously private, and shared how he has been there for her during her most challenging moments.

Chris Martin Helps Dakota Johnson Overcome Depression

According to Hello! US, Johnson said at the recent 2023 Hope for Depression Research Foundation luncheon that she was having a low day a few weeks ago. Martin asked him if she was struggling, but she said she was not.

He said, "Baby, you are wearing a Cats T-shirt. As in Cats the music." Johnson admitted that she was really struggling, but she said that moment lifted and pulled her out of loneliness.

Johnson has been experiencing depression since she was a teenager while she was still with her parents, Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith. She said that she has decided to be more honest about her depression after realizing that she has the power to help others.

"If me saying one little hopeful thing or one maybe relatable thing can help one other person feel a little bit better or a little bit less alone with their experience," she noted. After being open about her depression, she said she was a very willing advocate.

However, she was still learning the best way to use her voice as she still spoke about depression or anxiety in a very self-deprecating way. She said she finds it easier to look it in the eyes if she masks her depression in comedy.

She added that covering her pain or anxiety with comedy has become a lifelong tool, and she thinks that it is not a bad thing, but for her, it works and helps her because sometimes, if she does not laugh, she cries.

Despite her depression, Martin has been by her side since 2017 and continuously gave her a taste of paradise by serenading her at concerts, hitting the beach in Malibu, or even binge-watching the Netflix series Squid Game' together.

Martin, Johnson's Romance

Johnson was spotted at a Coldplay concert in 2017, and dating speculations began as fans suggested the two were more than just friends. However, the two did not confirm their relationship for months.

In 2018, the pair held hands while attending the launch of Stella McCartney's Women's Autumn 2018 and Men's Autumn/Winter 2018 Collections at SIR Studios, confirming dating rumors.

The pair confirmed their relationship with a matching tattoo and appeared to show off infinity tattoos in September 2018.

Furthermore, Johnson was interviewed in Tatler about her relationship with Martin. She said she would not talk about it but admitted that she was very happy.
