Prince Harry and Meghan Markle - the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in self-imposed exile in the US - have reportedly called King Charles III on the occasion of his 75th birthday on Tuesday (November 14) despite not being invited to the monarch's birthday party at Clarence House.

King Charles III received a phone call from his estranged son, Prince Harry, on the occasion of his 75th birthday.

Warming Relations Between Father and Son

Harry and Meghan's phone call marked the first time they spoke with the king in the past six months.

The king also received pre-recorded videos from his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, who both sang "Happy Birthday," The Telegraph reported.

There were speculations that the phone call went very well and was described as friendly and cordial that Charles and Harry have planned to have another over-the-phone conversation next week in what could be considered a "turning point" in their relationship.

"The King was extremely busy but is polite and loves his son and his grandchildren, and not so mean that he would not take a call on his birthday," a source told The Sun on the condition of anonymity.

Charles's Birthday Engagements

Charles's 75th birthday also became the official launch of his Coronation Food Project, where he and Camilla on Tuesday visited a surplus food distribution center in Didcot in Oxfordshire. The program aimed to create distribution hubs to connect surplus food with food banks and charities providing food parcels, according to the BBC.

Earlier on Monday (November 13), the king and queen also shared the celebrations for his birthday with other people of the same age who were invited to a party at his house at Highgrove in Gloucestershire.

Another birthday engagement included him meeting with around 400 nurses and midwives attending a reception at Buckingham Palace.

Meanwhile, William and Catherine, Prince and Princess of Wales, and Queen Camilla were present in Tuesday night's private and scaled-down birthday party at Clarence House, traditionally the official residence of the Prince of Wales but has been Charles's current one since ascending to the British throne.

Other working members of the royal family were also reported to be present.
