Oprah Winfrey with George Stephanopoulos and Arthur C. Brooks discuss "Build The Life You Want" at The 92nd Street Y, New York on September 12, 2023 in New York City.

According to CBS News' latest report, there's no doubt that Dianne Feinstein left a great legacy since she's one of the longest-serving American officials.

Aside from this, her death also left an open seat in the U.S. Senate for California. Feinstein, who died at 90 years old, had around 15 months left as a senator.

Since her remaining term is more than a year, California needs to find the right individual to replace Dianne. Surprisingly, Fox News reported that Oprah Winfrey and Meghan Markle are among the potential candidates to replace the former Californian senator.

Back in May, Oprah said that she is not considering replacing the Feinstein seat in case it becomes vacant. Meanwhile, Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle, who currently resides in Montecito, California with her husband, Duke of Sussex Prince, Harry-showed interest in becoming a U.S. official.

Before the 2020 U.S. election happened, Markle allegedly considered running for the U.S. Senate. Speculations stated that she had been networking among senior Democrats to build a campaign and eventually aim for a presidential bid of her own.

She even made a close relationship with social-political activist Gloria Steinem. Because of this, the American journalist introduced the Duchess of Sussex to pivotal individuals within the party.

A major Democratic donor said that Meghan Markle is a long shot. But, since U.S. politics has the "craziness" these days, it's not impossible for Markle to get a position in the U.S. Senate.

But Oprah is also a great candidate to replace Feinstein. Recently, Newsom claimed that he would appoint a Black woman to the Senate in case of Dianne's passing.

Who Will Gavin Newsom Choose?

U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) arrives at a weekly Senate Democratic Policy Luncheon at the U.S. Capitol February 5, 2019 in Washington, DC. Senate Democrats held the weekly policy lunch to discuss Democratic agenda.

Dianne Feinstein died on Thursday, Sept. 28, at her house in Washington, D.C. This was confirmed by her office on Sept. 29.

Ever since her passing, the burden of finding a replacement for her remaining term has been passed on to Gavin Newsom. Both Oprah and Markle are great candidates based on the statements provided above.

One of them becoming the next California senator is possible to happen. This is because Newsom has sole discretion to fill Dianne's seat with an appointee.

But, Newsom recently showed a lack of interest in making another appointment, considering he already did one with Sen. Alex Padilla.

"I don't want to make another appointment, and I don't think the people of California want me to make another appointment," said the Californian governor.

As of writing, the decision to fill the Senate position that Dianne Feinstein left behind greatly relies on Gavin Newsom's final decision.
