Crime scene tape crosses Castle Pines Drive on October 14, 2022, in Raleigh, North Carolina in the Hedingham neighborhood where 5 people were shot and killed. Police are investigating a 2-mile area of land around the neighborhood where 5 people were shot and killed.

According to the Associated Press's latest report, police authorities were able to take the shooter into custody an hour and a half after the gunshot was reported.

The identities of the suspect and victim were not immediately announced. As of writing, police officials haven't confirmed if the shooter and faculty member knew each other.

Because of a lack of information, the UNC police are still puzzled by the shooter's main motive. Aside from this, the weapon used by the criminal also hasn't been found yet.

"We are looking for a firearm. It is too early to determine if the firearm was legally obtained," said UNC Police Chief Brian James.

However, the police chief is optimistic that capturing the suspect can give them an opportunity to solve the latest shooting in UNC-Chapel Hill.

The official said that they wanted to learn from this shooting incident. He added that they will do their best to ensure that this kind of crime will not happen again on the University of Carolina campus.

Charlotte police officers assisted FBI agents during a search of the home of Paula Broadwell on November 13, 2012, in the Dilworth neighborhood of Charlotte, North Carolina. Broadwell is the recently discovered mistress of CIA Director David Petraeus, which has led to his resignation in light of the scandal.

WRAL News reported that the UNC-Chapel Hill shooting suspect is Tailei Qi, a doctoral student at the university.

The PhD student had been at the UNC for more than a year before the incident happened. One of the shooter's former classmates was surprised by his action.

Aiden Scott, a UNC grad student, said that he would have never guessed that Qi would do such a thing.

"I would have never guessed that he would be the kind of person who could possibly be capable of this kind of thing," said Scott.

He added that Tailei was always a quiet student. Scott explained that since Qi is not very good at English, he was probably having a hard time creating a good network at the university.

Despite the language barrier, Scott stated that Tailei was always very nice to him whenever they would talk.

This is why Scott and other people who know Tailei Qi were very shocked by his face in the news about the UNC-Chapel Hill shooting.
