In October 2022, the RNC accused Google of sending millions of RNC campaign emails to Gmail spam folders.

The American political committee claimed that the spam filtering activity of Google was suspicious since it was during the month when the RNC's fundraising was successful.

Because of this, the RNC wanted Google to reimburse for the donations it reported lost because of the Gmail spam filtering.

But, the Republican committee will no longer be able to get what it wants after a federal judge decided to dismiss the lawsuit, as reported by Engadget. U.S. District Court Judge Daniel Calabretta called the lawsuit a "close case."

He said that the search engine giant was effectively protected by Section 230 of the U.S. law.

The judge added that the RNC wasn't able to provide enough proof that Google acted in bad faith by filtering out campaign emails.

Meanwhile, Google argued that the emails that RNC was complaining about were flagged as spam because of user complaints.

The search engine giant also cited RNC's frequent mailouts and domain authentication issues as among the issues that led to the said complaints.

In this photo illustration, an image of the Google logo is reflected in the eye of a young man on August 09, 2017, in London, England. Founded in 1995 by Sergey Brin and Larry Page, Google now makes hundreds of products used by billions of people across the globe, from YouTube and Android to Smartbox and Google Search.

Google won the legal action against RNC. But, the search engine giant is still facing other lawsuits.

Forbes reported that some tax prep website users in seven U.S. states filed a class action lawsuit against Google.

Specifically, the legal action was filed by nine plaintiffs from Georgia, Illinois, New York, South Carolina, Florida, Texas, and  California.

They claim that the tech giant is conducting wiretapping; accusing Google of involuntary transmission of sensitive personal details.

These include refund amounts, filing status, scholarship information, as well as income. This class action lawsuit also affects Meta.
