The upside-down flag drone show video quickly went viral on Facebook and other social media platforms.

Many Filipinos criticized the drone provider and operators after the incident. Because of this, Marikina LGU could file a case against DroneTech PH.

Upside Down Philippine Flag Drone Show Update

According to GMA News Online's latest report, the Marikina LGU (local government unit) said it would file a case against the drone operators and providers for showing the Philippine flag upside down.

The issue happened when DroneTech Philippines' drone show accidentally flipped the Philippine flag during the 2023 Palarong Pambansa.

The drone display was a part of the game event's closing program on Saturday, Aug. 5. After seeing the viral videos, the LGU said there was a mistake in the formation of the drones to display the Philippine flag.

The Marikina government said that Mayor Marcy Teodoro condemned the incident. Officials said that they would file a lawsuit to identify the drone company's legal liabilities.

Drone Provider Issues Official Apology

When the flag is displayed upside down in the Philippines, it means that the country is at war.

This is why Marikina officials and residents heavily criticize the drone show mistake.

Since this is a very serious matter, DroneTech Philippines issued an official apology, which was posted via its official Facebook page on Aug. 5.

"We would like to apologize to the City of Marikina, Mayor Marcelino "Marcy" Teodoro, and to the whole country it's people and the Philippine government for a grave error we have made," said DroneTech.

The drone company added that it is sorry for the inconvenience that its UAV show created at the Palarong Pambansa 2023.

DroneTech explained that the issue happened because they could not test their drones due to severe weather conditions and signal interferences in the area in the past few days.

The company promised to execute the proper testing protocols for future drone shows.

"Once again, we apologize for any inconveniences this has caused and we are hoping for your kind understanding in this very unfortunate event," said DroneTech PH.

As of writing, Marikina LGU officials are firm with their decision to file a lawsuit against DroneTech. Only time will tell if they can let this problem slide.
