About 70 different types of air assault weapons were utilized by Russia between Saturday night, Aug. 5, and Sunday morning, Aug. 6, to attack Ukraine.

At least ten missiles seem to have gotten past the air defenses of Ukraine during the overnight multi-wave strike, including cruise and hypersonic missiles and drones manufactured in Iran. This is according to Kyiv Air Force's claim revealed on Sunday.

Reuters reported that the Ukrainian Air Force, which had a day off on Sunday in honor of a holiday, said on Telegram that it had shot down 30 of Russia's 40 cruise missiles and all 27 of its Shahed drones.

According to the report, three Kinzhal hypersonic missiles were fired, yet no other details were provided. The military stressed that information about Kinzhals is classified.

The overnight strike, which seemed to target a region in western Ukraine distant from the battle line, resulted in one casualty working at a grain silo.

Serhiy Tiurin, the deputy governor of the western Ukrainian district of Khmelnytskyi, reported that a military airstrip in Starokostiantyniv was one of the targets during the overnight attack.

"The Starokonstiantyniv airfield is on the enemy's mind. There was a series of explosions in Starokonstiantyniv and Khmelnytskyi communities," he claimed on messaging app Telegram. "Most of the missiles were shot down by air defense forces."

Tiurin said a fire broke out in a grain silo, and explosions destroyed multiple homes, a community cultural center, and the bus stop.

According to Air Force spokesperson Yuriy Ihnat's comments to the Ukrainian state radio, one of Russia's main objectives in the evening strike's main objectives was the Khmelnytskyi area.

Starokostiantyniv military airport in the Khmelnytskyi area had been a previous Russian target at the end of July.

Brutal Counterattack Against Russians

Ukraine has been waging a grueling counteroffensive against Russian soldiers for the last two months in an effort to drive them out of the south and east, where they hold about a fifth of the country's territory.

However, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken warned on July 26 that the Ukrainian counteroffensive was still in its early stages and would take form over several months, despite Ukraine having retaken half of the land that Russia had first conquered, Reuters reported.

Before Russia's latest attack, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said that a blood transfusion center in the town of Kupiansk was also attacked, resulting in fatalities, as BBC reported. Kupiansk is a railway hub located less than 10 miles from the front in the eastern Kharkiv area.

On Saturday night, he described the hit as a "war crime" as firefighters put out a blaze at the location. The number of fatalities was not identified.

Meanwhile, Russia claims the invasion that has killed hundreds, displaced millions, and destroyed cities was not aimed at civilians in any way.
