Australia, the United States, and the United Kingdom have announced a new strategic defense partnership.

Lowy Institute's International Security Program Director Sam Roggeveen provided a strong warning to Australia on Monday, July 17.

The former Australian intelligence analyst said that the country decided to bring its U.S. military strategy and combat forces to its shores to fight China.

"We have also chosen to build military capabilities of our own that are designed expressly to contribute to American operations to defeat China," added Roggeveen via The Guardian

The military expert added that the defense decisions of Australia are putting it at risk of war. He further stated that the war, which is not central to Australia's security interests, could lead to a nuclear catastrophe.

President Biden hosts British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in San Diego for an AUKUS meeting to discuss the procurement of nuclear-powered submarines under a pact between the three nations.

Recently, Australia, together with the United Kingdom, unveiled a new defense deal with the United States called AUKUS.

BBC explained that under the AUKUS pact, the three countries will create a new fleet of nuclear-powered submarines.

These sea defense vessels will be designed to counter China's military efforts in the Indo-Pacific region. China accused the AUKUS pact, saying that the three countries are going on the path of "error and danger."

However, U.S. President Joe Biden defended the defense deal. The American leader explained that it aims to bolster peace in the region.

Biden clarified that the submarines will be nuclear-powered and not nuclear-armed.

Roggeveen said that Australia is supporting the U.S. because the country believes that it is safer within the alliance.

However, Sam explained that if China's capabilities to attack Australia increase, then the Australian government needs to re-evaluate its decisions to support the U.S. alliance.
