WUHAN, CHINA - SEPTEMBER 16: (CHINA OUT) New Apple iPhone 14's are put on display at an Apple store on September 16,2022 in Wuhan. Hubei, China.

As per a report by 9to5 Mac, Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman first reported that the Cupertino-based firm is giving its retail employees a much-awaited phone upgrade. Apple is committed to providing its employees with the best possible job tools.

To be more precise, the tech juggernaut plans to ditch the iPhone XS models of its employees, which they use for retail sales, with the latest option, the iPhone 14.

Although customers would only notice something new with their experience, it is a significant move for the retail workforce of the Cupertino giant. Gurman notes that some employees have long been clamoring for this upgrade. They complained about the need to "swap the aging iPhones out multiple times per day."

It is worth noting that Apple Store employees use their iPhone XS for work since it serves as their point of sale or PoS. And as such, they swipe the credit cards of their employees to their mobile devices as they make their purchases. Due to the age of the device, some employees have to swap out the iPhone XS roughly two to three times a day, 9to5 Mac notes in the same report.

But this time, Apple is gearing up to replace the 2018 device with a brand new iPhone 14, which debuted in September last year or in 2022. According to Phone Arena, Gurman notes that the upgrade should "make things quicker for retail employees."

TAMPA, FL - NOVEMBER 26: The Apple store employee helps customers during Black Friday at International Plaza on November 26, 2021 in Tampa, United States. More shoppers are expected to shop in than last year after the COVID-19 pandemic caused the quietest Black Friday in 20 years.

CNET reports that the iPhone XS hit the stores in 2018 alongside the iPhone XS Max and the Apple Watch Series 4. The starting price of the iPhone XS costs $999 for 64GB of internal storage, whereas the bigger Max variant sells for $1,099.

These phones run on the A12 Bionic chip, which delivers a much faster Face ID. During its launch, the XS boasted impressive specs, but after several years, it is showing its age. It is now the oldest iPhone that the latest iOS 17 update supports after ditching the iPhone X and 8. On the other hand, the iPhone 14 offers the snappy A15 Bionic chip, which starts at $799.

Apple has yet to start replacing the iPhone of its retail employees. But with it reportedly right around the corner, employees would soon no longer have to swap phones multiple times daily.
