Dubai Customs said they had detained a man for attempting to smuggle seven kilos of marijuana hidden within cereal packages through the airport.

According to an official statement released on Thursday, authorities were concerned when they discovered black material in the cereal packages, which suggested the potential inclusion of forbidden products.

At the Dubai International Airport, the suspect, who is of Asian heritage, was apprehended. Dubai Customs officers quickly confiscated the drugs, according to Alarabiya News.

The person was turned over to Dubai Police to undergo additional legal procedures after being arrested.

According to Khaled Ahmed, the senior manager of the Passenger Operations Department at Terminal 1, irregularities were found during a comprehensive examination of the baggage at the airport, raising questions about the existence of illegal products, per Curly Tales.

Ahmed described how smugglers cover up drugs by body packing, hiding them in cosmetic products, blending them into the sides and bottoms of bags, merging them with clothing, masking them in food packaging and spice packets, and even hiding them in seasonal fruits.

Zero-Tolerance Policy

The head of Dubai Customs' Passengers Operations Department, Ibrahim Kamali, underlined the inspectors' extensive training programs to hone their scientific and practical abilities and improve their ability to spot efforts to smuggle drugs, according to The National.

The United Arab Emirates has strict laws prohibiting drug use for recreation.

The manufacture, import, export, transit, purchase, sale, possession, and storage of narcotic and psychotropic drugs are all completely prohibited in the UAE by Federal Decree-Law No. 30 of 2021.

Dubai Customs actively uses cutting-edge technology, such as underwater robots, flying drones, and predictive AI, to stop illegal activity, especially drug smuggling.
