• Target Corporation's senior executive in the marketing division holds a position at the controversial K-12 advocacy group GLSEN.
  • GLSEN's objectives include keeping parents unaware of their child's gender transition, providing explicit materials to schools, and integrating gender ideology into public school curricula.
  • Target's response to inquiries about its partnership with GLSEN emphasizes support for creating inclusive spaces for LGBTQIA+ students and a long-standing collaboration of over 10 years.

A senior executive in the marketing division of Target Corporation also holds a position at the contentious K-12 advocacy group GLSEN.

For Pride Month, Target and GLSEN work together to promote gender ideology across K-12 schools at all levels, from curriculum to district policy.

Target Vice President of Brand Marketing Carlos Saavedra also serves as the treasurer of GLSEN, according to a Fox News report.

GLSEN's goals include keeping parents uninformed about their child's gender change, offering explicit publications to schools for free, and incorporating gender ideology into the public school course of study.

Target responded to questions about their partnership with GLSEN by stating that the group spearheads the campaign in "creating affirming... and anti-racist spaces for LGBTQIA+ students."

The retail company added that it has collaborated with GLSEN for over 10 years. Target has contributed at least $2.1 million to GLSEN.

Regarding the decision-makers engaged in the relationship with GLSEN, Target did not immediately provide information.

GLSEN's Controversial Agenda in Schools

Promoting the inclusion of gender ideology in all courses, including math, is one of GLSEN's goals. The group advises teachers on how to add "they/them" pronouns to arithmetic problems to make them more inclusive.

GLSEN offers examples of district policies that restrict parents' awareness of their child's gender transition in school. The policy states that schools shall guarantee that "all personally identifiable and medical information relating to transgender and nonbinary students is kept confidential."

According to the policy, staff members and teachers must first consult with students before disclosing any details about their gender identities to anyone else, including parents or legal guardians.

Additionally, GLSEN provides free books, some of which include sexually explicit material, to full-time school personnel.

Target Continues To Suffer From Backlash

Target has recently suffered substantial negative press and financial losses. Due to the controversy over its Pride-themed goods, the company's market valuation decreased by almost $10 billion over 10 days, per Daily Mail.

Target's shares were trading at $160.96 before the scandal, with a market value of around $74.3 billion. By Friday's closure of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), the stock had plummeted to $138.93, resulting in a market value of $64.2 billion and a loss of $10.1 billion. As buyers shunned Target's merchandise, its market value dropped to its lowest level in a year.

Before Pride Month, Target decided to act in response to the incident by removing certain goods from its shops and modifying its LGBTQ+ merchandise in all of its locations. The retail corporation made these changes due to workplace safety concerns, per ABC News.

Target said that consumers had threatened employees, damaged Pride displays, and uploaded threatening videos to social media from inside shops.
