The first church owned by Ukrainian Catholics in the UK has been given listed status ahead of Eurovision. Liverpool has started its hosting of Eurovision after the UK offered to host on behalf of 2022's Ukraine winners, according to BBC.

Salford's Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Dormition of the Holy Mary Mother of God and other sites in Northern England have been listed. It is said that this was a chance to celebrate the heritage of Ukrainians in the UK.

The now-Grade II listed church in Salford that was opened in the late 19th century as the Sunday school for the nearby Congregational church was bought by the Ukrainian community in 1954 to create their first permanent home in the North.

It was converted by adding traditional features, such as iconostasis. The church was also designated as the mother church when it was consecrated.

The Ukrainian community has been an integral part of the UK's diverse cultural fabric for many years. Their rich heritage and traditions have played a significant role in shaping British society, particularly in Northern England, where they have established their roots.

Apart from the church, there are several other sites across Manchester and Liverpool that reflect the influence of Ukrainian culture on these cities. These include traditional dance groups, music festivals, food fairs, and art exhibitions that celebrate Ukraine's unique identity.

The hosting of Eurovision will undoubtedly provide a platform to showcase this vibrant community further while also promoting economic growth through increased tourism.
