  • Comedian Roy Wood Jr. roasted both political parties, the media, and even the President at the event.

President Joe Biden used comedy and serious language to address current issues during the White House Correspondents' Dinner on Saturday night.

At the Washington Hilton, where hundreds of supporters of press freedom gathered, President Joe Biden spoke about how the media is "the pillar of a free society, not the enemy."

The POTUS also spoke about the unfair arrest of American journalists Evan Gershkovich in Russia and Austin Tice in Syria, telling the audience and the families of the prisoners that the Biden administration is doing everything possible to bring their loved ones home.

Furthermore, Joe Biden made several funny remarks that poked fun at the previous scandals that had dogged his predecessor Donald Trump.

The president made a joke about being offered 10 dollars to keep his speech short, describing the situation as "a change, a president being offered hush money," in allusion to Donald Trump's alleged participation in a hush money controversy, according to CNN.

President Joe Biden also made fun of Florida governor and likely 2024 GOP presidential candidate Ron DeSantis. He said he prepared lots of jokes about DeSantis, "but Mickey Mouse beat the hell out of me, he got there first."

Comedian Roy Wood Jr. Roasts Joe Biden

Another highlight of the White House Correspondents' Dinner was "Daily Show" correspondent Roy Wood Jr. emerging to spare no one in his roasts. The comedian made fun of President Joe Biden, the Republican Party, the Democratic Party, and the media, according to Politico.

In his opening line, Roy Wood Jr. said that he needed to have a quick talk with President Joe Biden because he had left some confidential documents on the stage, and offered to "put them in a "safe place" because Biden "doesn't know where to keep them."

The comedian also quipped that there were demonstrations in France, where the administration of Emmanuel Macron was met with opposition when it raised the retirement age. While in the US, "we have an 80-year-old man begging us for four more years of work," a reference to Joe Biden's reelection campaign.
