One of A Kind TV Show Host

After serving as Cincinnati's 56th mayor in the 1970s, Jerry Springer turned his attention to television. He rose to fame as the host of the iconic talk program The Jerry Springer Show, which ran from 1991 to 2018 for 28 seasons. After his chat show ended, he made an appearance in Judge Jerry, a reality TV series.

Thirty years after the premiere of The Jerry Springer Show, Springer jokingly said that it was his first "grown-up job," according to People.

Jerry Springer humorously identified himself as the "Talk show host, ringmaster of civilization's end," and his audience would cheer his name during the show's outrageous confronts and slur-filled quarrels that were often censored.

Despite Springer's description of it as "escapist entertainment," several detractors said the program encouraged a deterioration of American societal standards. Jerry Springer would joke around with people and say he hoped they would never have to come on his show.

The Jerry Springer Show gained so much popularity in the 1990s that in certain areas, it even outperformed Oprah Winfrey's program.
