Germany's Luftwaffe said on Wednesday that three Russian military aircraft flying over the Baltic Sea without transponder signals had been intercepted.

The German air force has reported that two Sukhoi Su-27 fighter aircraft and one Ilyushin Il-20 aircraft have been spotted by German and British troops. It has also posted multiple pictures of the aircraft in midflight on Twitter, according to The Guardian.

Encounters with Russian military aircraft are common in the area due to the frequent flights between Kaliningrad and the Russian mainland, per Reuters.

Vladimir Putin Decrees Taking Over Two Foreign Firms Operating in Russia

To convey a warning that Moscow might retaliate against foreign corporations, Russian President Vladimir Putin has issued a directive to temporarily take over the Russian subsidiaries of two foreign energy companies.

Vladimir Putin's move indicates that if Russian assets located abroad are seized, similar measures may be taken against other foreign entities.

The directive from Vladimir Putin, which outlines a potential response if Russian assets overseas are impaired, revealed that Moscow has already taken action against the assets of Finland's Fortum Oyj and Germany's Uniper division in Russia, according to Al Jazeera.

In response to activities by the United States and others that it said were "unfriendly" and against international law, Vladimir Putin's order stated that Russia needed to act quickly.

In October, European Council President Charles Michel indicated the EU was considering utilizing frozen Russian assets to reconstruct Ukraine.
