Corvette warships from the Russian Pacific Fleet are now participating in anti-submarine drills in the Sea of Japan. The exercises include using helicopter support to find and destroy a mock enemy submarine.

Before leaving, the personnel was trained in emergency procedures to prepare three corvette ships for battle and a military operation. According to a CNN report, the fleet also participated in Russia's anti-submarine and anti-aircraft drills along with these defensive drills.

According to a press statement, the Pacific Fleet will engage in "ship-based counter-sabotage support units with practical counter-sabotage grenade-launching" as part of the last phase.

The Russian Navy has been conducting maneuvers in this region at least twice in less than three weeks.

The Defense Ministry said that Russian missile boats launched cruise missiles at a dummy target in the Sea of Japan at the end of March.

Japan's backing of Ukraine during Russia's invasion has contributed to the current rise of Japan-Russia tensions.

Military Activities Near Japan Increase

In December, China and Russia engaged in a coordinated naval drill in the East China Sea. The military exercises aimed at bolstering naval cooperation between the two countries, according to the Russian Defense Ministry, according to Anadolu.

The most recent Russian military exercise takes place as North Korea launched a brand-new long-range ballistic missile on Thursday, which, according to South Korea, caused concern in northern Japan. Residents were advised to take shelter, but no threat was present.

The missile, which traveled over 1,000 kilometers (620 miles), is thought to have been a brand-new weapon that North Korea recently exhibited in military parades and may have utilized solid fuel, per Reuters.

The greatest height of the missile, which South Korea's military described as a "grave provocation," was less than 6,000 kilometers, which is the apogee of several of last year's record-breaking launches.
