Brie Larson returns as Captain Marvel in the 2019 sequel The Marvels. This time around, Larson has some company in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), with Teyonah Parris of WandaVision and Iman Vellani of Ms. Marvel.

As played by Vellani in Disney+'s Ms. Marvel, the teenage New Jersey superhero Ms. Marvel Kamala Khan is presented in this eagerly awaited sequel to the Carol Danvers origin tale.

Panel participants at the 2022 D23 Expo were given an early glimpse at The Marvels before the trailer was made public, as reported by The Variety. After Ms. Marvel's post-credits sequence in which Kamala purportedly switched places with Carol, the original film provides some context for what happened next.

Trailer Breakdown

As the preview for The Marvels continued, we saw Nick Fury's (Samuel L. Jackson) and Captain Monica Rambeau's (Parris) moments as astronauts on Saber Space Station.

Fury and Rambeau are investigating a space anomaly that seems to be a wormhole or "jump point," as Rambeau describes it. She swaps places with the obviously frantic Kamala Khan while attempting to collect scientific data on the phenomenon. Once Khan realizes it's Fury, her fear quickly subsides since she is an extreme fan.

Danvers is in Khan's bedroom, perplexed by all the posters of herself that cover the walls, while Rambeau is in the middle of a fight on another planet.

At Khan's residence, Fury and Rambeau finally figure out the problem and discuss how their abilities have gotten entangled. Khan, eager to prove her skills to Rambeau, switches places with Danvers, whose abilities are also visibly linked, and there she encounters Goose, who deals with her attackers in typical Flerken fashion.

Khan is overjoyed that the three of them are a team, despite Rambeau's and Danvers' best efforts to the contrary.
