Former kickboxer and now controversial social media personality Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan have been released from prison and placed under house arrest amid ongoing investigations.

The brothers have been locked up in Romanian prison for about three months following their arrest for organized crime, human trafficking, and rape allegations. A Romanian court decided on Friday.

The suspects, who have continued to deny the allegations, allegedly formed an organized criminal group encompassing Romania, Britain, and the United States. The organization was believed to have been made for human trafficking.

Romanian authorities said that some of the brothers' victims were misled to believe that the two men wanted to enter a marriage/cohabitation relationship with the women. The victims were then transported to Romania and were sexually exploited and threatened with physical violence and coercion, as per CNN.

A statement released by Romania's Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) said that there were at least six victims whom the organized criminal group sexually exploited.

Romanian officials also said that one of the suspects raped a victim twice in March 2022. On the other hand, the Tate brothers have maintained their innocent stance regarding the crimes.

In a statement in January, Andrew, after being taken in by Romanian authorities for questioning, said there was no evidence in his file because he had done nothing wrong. He argued that everyone knew that he was innocent.

Suspects Placed Under House Arrest

The latest ruling by the Bucharest Court of Appeal replaces the latest period of custody for the Tate brothers, which was set to end on Apr. 29. Furthermore, two associates of the main suspects are also being released, identified as Georgiana Naghel and Luana Radu, according to BBC.

All four individuals have been placed under house arrest in the buildings where they live unless they acquire judicial permission to leave. A spokeswoman representing the Tate brothers said the two individuals were "ecstatic" to be released from Romanian prison.

Lawyers for both suspects have continued to argue that keeping their clients in preventative custody was unnecessarily harsh. This comes as other judicial options exist, such as house arrest.

Leaked court documents also outlined testimony from alleged victims who claimed to have been forced to earn roughly $11,000 monthly on social media platforms if they did not want to be physically hurt.

A spokesperson for the Tate brothers said that the suspects were looking forward to being reunited with their families and will continue to fight the allegations. They also thanked all of their supporters.

Mateea Petrescu, Andrew's communications director, said that he believes the judge in the appeal court was thorough in their decision. He argued that the justices took their time to understand that the suspects were not flight risks or dangers to the public's safety, said Mirror.
