In order to address more crucial issues of content moderation, the 22-person board has declared that it will expedite the publication of some of its decisions.

Meta Platforms' Oversight Board stated Tuesday that it would assess additional content moderation cases and speed up certain evaluations to enhance its function.

In late 2020, the Oversight Board was established to investigate and rule on the propriety of Facebook and Instagram's content removal and retention policies, according to Reuters. In a subsequent blog post, the board announced that 35 new rulings were available online.

The 22-person board has said it would speed up the publication of certain of its rulings. After accepting a case, a decision might be made as early as 48 hours or as late as 30 days.

It may take up to 90 days for the Oversight Board to assess the content moderation activities of Meta under standard rulings.

In the blog post, the board stated that publishing more rulings and speeding up would enable them to tackle more of the key issues of content moderation and react more swiftly in cases with critical "real-world consequences."

Here's What Will Happen

Fast-tracked cases are looked at by a panel instead of the whole board, and the public will not have a chance to comment, as per CNA.

Moreover, the board will start releasing summarized conclusions to examine instances when Meta reversed its original decision to keep or remove a post.

Meta has recently reinstated former US President Donald Trump's Facebook and Instagram accounts after they were shut down for two years, according to Engadget. The company stated it would "guardrail" his accounts to prevent subsequent violations.

After Donald Trump supported the insurgents on Capitol Hill in January 2021, he was banned from using Facebook, Twitter, and other platforms.
