The Turkish FM accepted Greek support when twin quakes shook Turkey up and caused damage. Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu gave thanks to the FM of Greece, Nikos Dendias, for his nation's gesture after the massive quake injured numerous people.

Greek Support for Turkey Despite Political Differences

Early in the week, the Hatay province in the south part of the country got struck. Cavusoglu spoke of Athens's assistance in the direst time, ANews.

He lauded Nikos Dendias's presence in Ankara, which shows unity and support of Greece and Türkiye, and the Turkish nation, and mentioned that such unity in times of crisis is indispensable. During the 1999 Marmara quake that hit Türkiye, Greece had earthquakes a month after them, adding that Athens was first to help and Ankara returned the favor to help its neighbor, the Turk FM mentioned DW.

At that time, Cavusoglu sent a letter as a private on Ankara-Athens relations. He said he was waiting for another quake to hit to improve relations via sincere dialogue.

Turkish FM Accepts Support After Twin Quakes

Reiterated gratitude to Dendias and his government's support as world events have placed a cloud over the two nations. On his part, the representative of Greece vowed support to the disaster-ridden nation. He stated that his country pledges assistance to Ankara based on the bilateral and EU level.

On the topic of foreign relations, the Greek diplomat repeated the sentiments of his Turkish counterpart that waiting for another natural disaster would not improve the problems they faced. Dendias is the second foreign minister to visit Ankara after the dual natural disaster.

Kahramanmaras was the epicenter of the 7.7 and 7.6 magnitude quakes, impacting 13 million people in 10 provinces. The wake of destruction ripped through Hatay, Gaziantep, Adana, Adiyaman, Diyarbakir, Kilis, Malatya, Osmaniye, and Sanliurfa.

Other countries also felt a powerful quake in Syria and Lebanon. Each of these nations suffered strong tremors in less than 10 hours separately.

Qatari Emir Visits President Erdogan After the Disaster 

The occurrence of the powerful quake that shook Turkey triggered a visit from foreign officials like the Qatari emir, who was on state business, commented media from Qatar, citing Anadolu.

Based on reports that indicated that Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Qatar Emir, departed from Doha to have a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, noted an outlet.

Upon arrival in the Turkish capital, Emir Al Thani was taken and welcomed at Istanbul's Vahdettin Palace, where sources close to the presidency posted a picture of the two Arab leaders on the social media site Twitter.

One of the first world leaders to visit Istanbul was the Qatari emir in a show of solidarity and support. Included in the official trip of the emir is an official delegation.

Turkish FM Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu praised the Greek support in the most trying times when the twin quakes that devasted Turkey came when most needed.
