Grammys 2023: Social Media, Taylor Swift React to Viola Davis' Historic EGOT Status

Social media users and singer-songwriter Taylor Swift took to Twitter to express their joy after Viola Davis' Grammys 2023 achievement of winning the coveted EGOT status.

Social media users and American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift reacted to the Grammys 2023 after actress Viola Davis achieved a historic EGOT status, becoming only the third Black woman to do so alongside Whoopi Goldberg and Jennifer Hudson.

Davis, who is famous for various roles in the cinema industry, has become the 18th person to achieve the EGOT, a term used for the achievement of winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Award.

Viola Davis EGOT Status

The actress' EGOT status was achieved by winning the best audiobook for her autobiography titled "Finding Me." In a statement, Davis said that she wrote the book to honor the six-year-old version of herself, including her life, joy, trauma, and everything.

Davis' EGOT also comes from winning the best supporting actress Oscar in 2016 for Fences. Furthermore, her Emmy Award recognized the TV drama "How To Get Away With Murder," She currently has two Tony Awards for King Hedly II and Fences, as per BBC.

In a statement accepting her latest achievement, Davis said, "I just EGOT!" and could be seen becoming visibly emotional as she thanked her family for being the "best chapter" in her book. Her predecessors include Rita Moreno, Andrew Lloyd Webber, John Legend, and Mel Brooks.

Online users have taken to social media to express their support and appreciation for the actress, including Taylor Swift, who tweeted, "EGOT BABYYYYYYY." Some fans also reacted to this particular post, pointing out that women supporting women was one of their favorite things. Swift's congratulatory message for Davis comes as she was revealed to be a 2023 Grammy winner with her music video for "All Too Well: The Short Film."

Hudson, who is also an EGOT, tweeted Davis her reaction to the historic achievement on Sunday. The legendary singer expressed her shock and awe and called Davis a "living LEGEND," according to Billboard. Davis, who is 57 years old, went up against fellow nominees Jamie Foxx, Brooks, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Questlove on Sunday.

Historic Achievement

Other stars have won all four awards but have not achieved EGOT status because at least one of these was non-competitive in nature. These individuals include Barbra Streisand and Harry Belafonte.

Among the EGOT achievers in the list, Legend is the youngest to receive the status at 39, while Gielgud was the oldest at 87. Davis' recent achievement comes as she is set to appear in more highly anticipated films in the future, including this year with "The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" and "Air," said the Los Angeles Times.

The Grammy's Twitter account also posted an interview on the social media platform where Davis was asked about how her life has come full circle after her latest achievement. Some fans also share their happiness for the star, noting their joy and pride for their favorite artist in the world's success.

Some users also pointed out that Davis has become only the 7th woman to have achieved the coveted EGOT status, following the footsteps of Helen Hayes, and Audrey Hepburn.
