Russia launched fresh missile attacks on Ukraine as the West pledged to send tanks to help Kyiv on the battlefield, which Moscow has downplayed.

Russia fired a barrage of missiles into Ukraine on Thursday, only one day after the United States and Germany offered tanks to help Kyiv forces in the Russian Ukraine war.

The mayor of Kyiv has confirmed that one person has died and two others have been wounded as a result of blows to a building in the city, per the BBC.

Two energy plants in Odesa's southern area were reportedly attacked, according to official reports.
Russia called the tank offer "direct" Western engagement in the fight, prompting the onslaught.

The Ukrainian army chief said that on Thursday, Moscow fired 55 missiles from the air and the sea in a coordinated and extensive operation.

Gen. Valery Zaluzhny said 47 were shot down, 20 near Kyiv.

Russia Downplays West Tank Supplies For Ukraine

The Kremlin has warned that the Germany and US tank supplies will escalate the situation in Ukraine and has harshly opposed the historic decision of Germany and the US to transfer heavy weaponry to its adversary, per AP News.

Russia, though, maintains that its new armor will not prevent it from accomplishing its aims in Ukraine. Dmitry Peskov, a spokesperson for the Kremlin, remarked that the tanks for Ukraine "will burn just like any others."

Several Russian specialists have stressed that the front may have to wait many months to get the lethal weaponry.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's anti-corruption effort has caused the most significant political overhaul in Ukraine since the start of the conflict, per Al Jazeera.

Some have theorized that the action is related to the West's promise to provide highly desirable combat tanks to assist it in fighting Russia's incursion.
