New York Jets quarterback March Sanchez is confident that he'll be the starting quarterback in Week 1, despite the Jets drafting a quarterback last weekend.

Sanchez told reporters on Thursday that he has "no doubt" that the starting quarterback position will be his this season.

The Jets released Tim Tebow on Monday, but that does little to resolve the team's quarterback situation. New York still has five quarterbacks on its roster going into the 2013 preseason.

Competition will be intense when training camp begins in the summer. Geno Smith, who the Jets drafted in the second-round last week, is expected to be Sanchez's primary competition.

Smith is coming off of a stellar campaign last season with the West Virginia Mountaineers, where he threw for 4,205 yards, 42 touchdowns and only six interceptions. The athletic quarterback's playmaking ability, throwing accuracy and lack of turnovers could lead him to supplant Sanchez as the starter going into Week 1.

Sanchez had trouble last season moving the offense and holding onto the football. He threw for an anemic 2,883 yards and 13 touchdowns. His biggest problem came with turnovers: he tossed 18 interceptions and fumbled nine times.

Jets coach Rex Ryan benched Sanchez against the Arizona Cardinals for ineffective play. Had Greg McElroy been healthy for the regular season finale, Sanchez would have been benched a second time.

New York's stable of quarterbacks also includes Pro Bowler David Garrard and Matt Simms.

Sanchez is still considered the incumbent starter, but with laughable turnovers (see below) and four other hungry quarterbacks on the roster, that might not be the case for long.
