A man shot and killed himself Thursday in an apparent suicide at the pre-screening area of Terminal B, at Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, according to reports coming out of Houston, Texas.

Authorities in Texas responded to a shooting early Thursday afternoon at Bush Intercontinental Airport, KHOU reports.

According to the Associated Press, a call came into the police station saying there had been a "discharge of firearms", John Cannon, the spokesman said. The man that shot himself has been taken to an area hospital with life threatening injuries.

KHOU interviewed a woman working at the McDonald's near the terminal who witnessed the events. "As soon as he walked in, he just automatically started shooting quickly," said the employee, who said her name is Kendra. "And we hear two shots and we just automatically started running. We ran all the way to the back."

Another witness who was waiting in the terminal for a flight to Oklahoma City, said he was sitting in a cafe area when he heard two gunshots and after a pause, several more.

"It seemed like quite a few shots. Everyone was scrambling, running left and running right, turning tables up and hiding behind tables. Nobody knew what was happening. I couldn't tell where the shots were coming from," Greg Newburn said, according to the Associated Press report.

Police believe the shooting was an isolated event, and there was no search being conducted for other suspects. The name of the man shot has not yet been released.
