LG finally took the wraps off its rumored smartphone, the G Pro 2, in South Korea, Thursday, much ahead of its expected debut at the Mobile World Congress later this month.

LG put an end to the continuous rumors about the G Pro 2, the successor of the award-winning G Pro. The phone maker unveiled the LG G Pro 2 in South Korea, Thursday, with upgraded specs and a new design. The smartphone was expected to debut at the MWC in Barcelona later this month. The company detailed the high-end specifications, which include an amazing 13-megapixel camera with 4K recording facility among other features.

Design:

The LG Pro 2 features a 5.9-inch Full HD IPS display with 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution. The device has a slim bezel, taking just 3.3 mm space on the sides, which gives the G Pro 2 a screen-to-frame ratio of 77.2 percent. The new device is 2 g (0.07 oz) lighter than its predecessor and scales just at 172 g (6 oz) with battery.

Camera:

Smartphones are increasingly featuring advanced cameras to fulfil customer demand. The LG G Pro 2 has a multi-purpose highly advanced camera. At 120 fps, the 13-megapixel camera with Optical Image Stabilizer Plus shoots at 4K resolution. The OIS+ technology by LG adds features like anti-shake for a picture that rivals standalone point-and-shoot cameras. The camera features video editing in three different modes, one-half slow motion, one-fourth slow motion and regular.

Other features include Magic Focus, which allows users to select the preferred depth of focus before saving or choose all in focus. The Burst shot can take up to 20 continuous shots and creates a video using the captured shots automatically.

Under the hood:

The LG G Pro 2 is powered by the latest 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 with Adreno 330 and Android 4.4 KitKat. Backed up by 3GB RAM, found in high-end handsets like the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, LG offers 16GB and 32GB options with expandable up to 64GB via microSD card slot.

Knock Code:

"Knock Code is an example of LG bringing simpler, more convenient solutions to consumers' mobile lives," Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company, said in a press release. The feature makes it easier for users to unlock and use their G Pro 2. Like the KnockON feature, debuted in LG G2 last year, the Knock Code also wakes up the G Pro 2 by a  simple knock on the screen. Users can set up a choice of knock combination from a wide range of over 86,000 options.

Large screen made small:

The LG understands that large displays are attractive and useful, but at times using it with one hand makes it a challenge. To solve this, LG G Pro 2 brings an option called Mini View, which shrinks the size of the screen ranging from 3.4 to 4.7 inches, whichever user prefers. Another feature called Dual Browser divides the screen into two separate browser windows for multi-tasking.

Availability:

The South Korean phone maker will showcase the LG G Pro 2 at Mobile World Congress, starting February 24, but the pricing of the handset is yet to be announced. The G Pro 2 will go on sale in South Korea later this month but the global availability is unclear.
