Illinois Republican Adam Kinzinger criticized other GOP members of being hypocrites after they have now started to defend former U.S. President Donald Trump for keeping classified documents at Mar-a-Lago. Kinzinger said that the same lawmakers slammed Hillary Clinton for using her private email server.

Illinois Rep. Adam Kinzinger criticized fellow GOP members who slammed Hillary Clinton over emails but are now defending former United States President Donald Trump who stored highly-classified documents at Mar-a-Lago.

Kinzinger said that the hypocrisy of Republicans included years of chanting "lock her up" about Clinton because of some deleted emails or "wiping a server." He argued that they are now defending a man who very clearly did not take the national security of the United States to heart.

Kinzinger Points to Republican Hypocrisy

The Illinois lawmaker, responding to questions of whether or not Trump would be indicted after the FBI raided Mar-a-Lago, said that the decision would be up to the Department of Justice. "This is disgusting in my mind, and no president should act this way, obviously," he said.

Previously, the FBI seized more than two dozen boxes of government records, including some that were labeled top-secret. Recently, the DOJ released a redacted version of the FBI affidavit that granted the search.

During the 2016 campaign, Republicans criticized Clinton for using her private email server during her time as U.S. secretary of state. Now, following news of the Mar-a-Lago raid, she promoted her merch with the slogan "But her Emails," as per Business Insider.

On the other hand, GOP members, including Arizona Rep. Paul Gosar, Colorado lawmakers Lauren Boebert, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, spoke out against law enforcement following the raid.

The former president said that he has done nothing wrong and argued that he is the victim of a series of political attacks. Trump, along with many other Republicans, have, for years, castigated Clinton's use of her private email server.

According to Reuters, Trump has regularly led political rallies with supporters chanting "Lock her up." Kinzinger is one of two Republicans alongside Wyoming's Liz Cheney who is part of the nine-member House Special Committee that is investigating the deadly Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol Hill siege.

Democrats vs Republicans

Kinzinger, who opted not to seek re-election, said that there will be "more depth" revealed on Trump's behavior during the riot. He added that one of the more intriguing things is some of the financings where a vast majority of the money was raised under "stop the steal" with no intention of doing anything to stop the so-called steal.

Previously, Trump falsely claimed that Joe Biden won the 2020 presidential election through massive voter fraud. However, it was an assertion that was rejected by several court rulings, the former president's own Justice Department, and even Republican-led investigations at the state level.

Kinzinger, who is opposed to abortion except for circumstances such as rape or incest, said on Sunday that many Republicans were acting crueler regarding the issue but were more likely to win a primary.

The Illinois Republican said that the issue of abortion following the overturning of Roe v. Wade has changed the complexion of the midterms some. He added that he was very open to backing "left-wing" Democrats who believe in democracy over "anti-democracy" Republicans, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
