At least 16 states are providing financial assistance to citizens who are struggling to pay for higher food, gas, and rent. Here’s how you may be eligible for stimulus checks in your place!

Low-income people, households, senior citizens, and the disabled get monthly payments from the New York Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Benefits are sent monthly via EBT cards and can be used to purchase qualified foods at authorized shops.

The New York Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance administers SNAP outside of New York City. SNAP benefits are administered by the Department of Social Services Human Resources Administration in New York City.

SNAP Benefits New York

Food goods purchased with SNAP benefits can be purchased at approved retail establishments and farmers' markets. Enter your PIN and use your EBT card like any other credit or debit card. Non-eligible products will need you to utilize another method of payment.

The only way to find out if your household is qualified for SNAP assistance is to apply, according to the New York Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance. New York's SNAP program can be applied for online at myBenefits.ny.gov, or you can print and send or fax the SNAP application to your local social services department, according to Go Banking Rates.

Gov. Kathy Hochul confirmed this on Thursday, stating that the increased food assistance will total $232 million. New York has distributed approximately $696 million in additional benefits since January.

All households, including those that normally get the maximum monthly SNAP payment, are eligible for the emergency assistance bonus. By Friday, April 22, SNAP families in all counties outside of New York City should have received these additional payments. By Friday, April 29, SNAP families in the five-county New York City region should have received their payments, as per News10.

Increased SNAP Benefits in May

Oregon will be allowed to give these emergency benefits in June since the federal government has approved them for May. The emergency benefits, on the other hand, are scheduled to terminate once the federal public health emergency is over.

In addition to their usual SNAP benefits, about 406,000 SNAP households will receive nearly $66 million in additional food assistance in May. On May 11, current SNAP families will get emergency allotments. Households that did not get benefits in the first monthly issuance will receive emergency allotments on May 28 or June 2.

SNAP clients will get these extra payments straight on their EBT cards without taking any action. If you have any questions concerning your SNAP benefits, call the ONE Customer Service Center at 1-800-699-9075.

If you get SNAP benefits and your income or the number of persons in your family has changed, your benefits may be affected. It's critical that ODHS has the most up-to-date information possible, KTVZ reported.

States That Provide Extra Food Stamp

SNAP existed before the pandemic and will continue to benefit families across the United States, but an emergency rate hike was adopted during the pandemic. Even though the national public health emergency concluded on April 16, seven states will extend the emergency higher rate of SNAP payments until May.

The following seven states will continue to offer a greater level of SNAP benefits in May after receiving a waiver:

  • New Hampshire
  • New Jersey
  • North Carolina
  • Oregon
  • Rhode Island
  • South Carolina
  • Wisconsin

For the time being, the higher rate will be maintained in Washington, D.C. Even so, this is a drop from the 14 states that planned to pay the higher rate for the entire month of April, as per Marca.
