Kanye West lost $8.5 million in Coachella performance after he backed out. The Weeknd asked for the same amount as he became the replacement for the rapper.

After canceling his Coachella concert, Kanye West lost $8.5 million.

In a Twitter rage, the rapper discussed bailing out of the show. According to TMZ, the rapper's choice to skip the show cost him a lot of money. On Wednesday, the publication said that the Chicago native lost $8 million by canceling his two-weekend headlining tour. Coachella is also expected to pay $500,000 in production costs, according to sources.

Furthermore, some sources suggested Kanye West may have had the intention to cancel his concert obligation long before announcing it on social media. Kanye seemed to have been ready to walk away for a long time, according to sources.

He was said to have never genuinely practiced, something that most musicians do for months before taking the stage at a concert. Kanye West had a crew in place who were in contact with producers, but there was still a lot of work to be done in preparation for the concert. Coachella producers were taken aback by Kanye's decision and did not have a plan in place to replace him - at least not right away.

The Weeknd has a long list of requests even though he is scheduled to play. Organizers allegedly sought to underpay The Weeknd compared to what Kanye was supposed to get, according to the site.

The singer vowed to leave the event unless he was paid the same amount as the Donda rapper. Coachella was fast to declare that The Weeknd and Swedish House Mafia would take the place of the Yeezy designer although the contract wasn't finalized yet, according to the publication.

Kanye confirmed his departure from the project earlier this week. Travis Scott was also said to be performing alongside the singer during the performance, according to sources. It was supposed to be his first major performance since the tragic conclusion of Astroworld.

It was unclear at the moment why Kanye chose not to perform at Coachella. Kanye West admitted to ex-wife Kim Kardashian that he was "going away to get therapy" in early April, according to reports.

It is still unknown if he intended to travel to a specific treatment clinic or anything else. Ye is currently focused on raising their lovely children while maintaining a solid co-parenting relationship with Kim, according to The Sun.

Coachella 2022 Schedule

The 44-year-old GRAMMY winner has been mum on his choice to withdraw from the competition thus far. The 'Famous' rapper has previously revealed that he wanted to bring out Travis Scott during his set.

If that had happened, it would have been the first time the 'Goosebumps' rapper has performed in front of a huge crowd since the AstroWorld music festival in which ten people perished.

Following the tragedy, West stepped in to fill Scott's spot on the Coachella lineup. After a two-year hiatus, the Coachella Music Festival will return to Indio, California. The first weekend is April 15-17 while the second weekend is April 22-24. Megan Thee Stallion, Doja Cat, Karol G, and others are among the performers expected to perform, Whas11 reported.
