Authorities suspected an Indiana husband of killing his cancer survivor wife after last chemotherapy session. The victim's remains was found in the creek.

A cancer-stricken Indiana woman was discovered dead in a stream just after her last chemotherapy session, and authorities believe her husband is to blame.

When Indiana resident Elizabeth "Nikki" Wilhoite, 41, failed to show up for work on Friday, her coworkers phoned authorities to report her missing, according to a release from the Boone County Sheriff's Office. The Boone County Sheriff's Office sent deputies to her residence to check on her, but they were unable to locate her.

Bloodhounds were used to search the region for many hours but had no information. Andrew was apprehended and charged with first-degree murder. Nikki's corpse was discovered half-buried in roughly three feet of water in a stream several miles from her house with her husband and children at around 3 am.

The Indiana woman filed for divorce from Andrew on March 17, according to court records obtained by 13 News. Her spouse posted on Facebook on March 18 that she had recently finished chemotherapy. Wilhoite was slain last week after her husband, Andrew Wilhoite, struck her with a gallon-size cement flowerpot, according to an affidavit.

One coworker said Nikki "was having troubles with her spouse" and had recently filed for divorce during the original contact with authorities. Officers were met at the Wilhoite family home by the three children, who informed them that Nikki was not at home and that they had been unable to contact her.

Andrew came into the driveway on a blue tractor as police were about to depart the farm and alerted them that his wife was missing. He claimed that they had a very strong argument last night, and she was inebriated, according to the affidavit. He also allegedly pointed to scratch marks on his neck, implying that these were proof of the couple's incident.

The suspect pointed out that this isn't the first time something similar has happened. He admitted to doing things to Elizabeth that he shouldn't have done in the past.

However, once authorities talked with Elizabeth's father, Thomas Richards, who verified she withdrew money on March 18 because she was going to have to divorce Andrew, police alleged Andrew's apparent falsehoods began to unravel. Andrew then acknowledged killing Nikki when she began ranting at him about the affair, physically assaulting him, and ordering him to leave the family home during that interview.

Nikki, who reportedly went at her husband after a quarrel about his suspected adultery, slumped to the ground after being assaulted. Andrew, 39, claimed he "didn't know what else to do" so he carried Nikki's body into his car and buried it near their property in a creek.

Following her autopsy on Sunday, the Boone County Coroner deemed Nikki's death a homicide, and Andrew was charged with murder on Monday, according to court documents. He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday for a preliminary hearing, according to Daily Mail.

Friends lamented Nikki's loss, praising her upbeat nature while she fought illness. Nikki Wilhoite opened up about her cancer struggle on Facebook. She shaved her head on December 20 as her hair began to come out.

"The community rallied around this family," Indiana State Sgt. Ron Galaviz told WTHR. "The community themselves helped to look for Mrs. Wilhoite until the tragic discovery. The community did what they could and we are really appreciative of it,"as per Charlotte Observer.
