Activision officially announced the release of its next game in the Call of Duty franchise shortly after the first glance of the CoD: Ghosts was leaked by Tesco, reports PC Magazine.

A press release from Activision, Wednesday May 1, has confirmed the next generation of Call of Duty: Ghosts Nov.r 5 launch date. Gamers can expect a peak at the game during the Microsoft's Xbox event, May 21. A short video clip was posted on YouTube shortly after the announcement, featuring dark and portentous shots of people disguised in tribal make-up and metal headgear. The next gen game in the franchise is bound to feature Simon "Ghost" Riley, a British soldier last seen in the CoD: Modern Warfare 2.

The Call of Duty: Ghosts is published by Activision and developed by Infinity Ward, which also developed the original Call of Duty and is responsible for the seminal of the CoD: Modern Warfare series.

"Everyone was expecting us to make Modern Warfare 4, which would have been the safe thing to do. But we're not resting on our laurels," said Mark Rubin, executive producer of developer Infinity Ward. "We saw the console transition as the perfect opportunity to start a new chapter for Call of Duty. So we're building a new sub-brand, a new engine, and a lot of new ideas and experiences for our players. We can't wait to share them with our community."

The bio info on the official Twitter page for Call of Duty was updated to "#CODGhosts is Real" with the first debut dated May 21, during the Xbox launch along with the official poster for the CoD: Ghosts.

In the press release and on Twitter, Activision said that gamers can pre-order their copies of CoD: Ghosts for PC, Xbox 360, PS3 via GameStop or any retail outlets worldwide. The game copies are priced at $59.99. Activision also said that the CoD: Ghosts will also be launched for the next generation platforms, likely for the new Xbox and PS4, by the end of this year.
