Twitter has rolled out an update for Android smartphone users, which lets them edit and share photos more easily as well as stay connected with more trending topics and shows, even if there are no new tweets on the timeline.

Crop, Rotate & Share! These functions have made their way to the Android users of Twitter mobile app. The new update lets users crop and rotate photos by selecting a square of wider aspects before sharing it with the world. The app also reminds users to @mention people within the tweet so selected friends will receive a notification of the upload. These features make it easier for users to take a new photo directly from the app and remove unwanted sceneries before sharing the perfect shot. Untagged followers will see the photo appear on their timeline.

The latest update, announced Monday on the company's blog, also adds more juice to the frequent users who run out of new tweets when refreshed. If there are no new tweets to display on the timeline, users will see "recommended tweets, trending topics and suggestions for new accounts to follow," Matt Belland, Twitter Software Engineer, wrote on the company's blog post.

The U.S. users of the Android app will receive TV, sports and news event updates on the top of the timeline when there are no new tweets to display. Twitter had included these features in the beta version, and now made them available for general users, starting Monday.

The updated version of the app can be downloaded from Google Play Store.

The news may not be exciting for iOS users, but they need not be disappointment. Twitter has promised iPhone users the update soon.
