Ubisoft's upcoming "Watch Dogs" was delayed weeks before its fall release in 2013, and one analyst believed the title was heading towards a catastrophe if they launched the game.

"Our ambition from the start with Watch Dogs has been to deliver something that embodies what we wanted to see in the next-generation of gaming. It is with this in mind that we've made the tough decision to delay the release until spring 2014," Ubisoft said in a statement in October 2013.

According to Bonus Round (via Lazy Gamer), analyst Michael Pachter said the game needed more time in development before the title was ready to hit store shelves.

"I admire them. Their stock got hammered. The management got criticized. And that franchise matters; it sounds really good," Pachter told Bonus Round. "And if it doesn't work, it's a big waste of time and waste of money. So I'm hopeful that that six month delay makes that game great. But I think that was headed for disaster."

Ubisoft has yet to confirm a release date for "Watch Dogs", but multiple reports speculate the title might launch in May or June.

"We know a lot of you are probably wondering: Why now? We struggled with whether we would delay the game," Ubisoft said in a statement in October 2013. "But from the beginning, we have adopted the attitude that we will not compromise on quality. As we got closer to release, as all the pieces of the puzzle were falling into place in our last push before completion, it became clear to us that we needed to take the extra time to polish and fine tune each detail so we can deliver a truly memorable and exceptional experience."
