Twitter-owned Vine is celebrating its first year in business with a flurry of six-second videos uploaded by over 40 million users in the past 12 months.

Just six months ago marketers had no idea how to use Vine, the six-second mobile video sharing app. Now, after completing one year, the iconic mobile app proudly stands among the top-rated and most downloaded apps. Vine helped users share laughs and cry over historic events in a novel and unique way of short looping videos. Over the course of one year, the app has grown intensely popular with more than 40 million registered users constantly sharing their thoughts, creativity and memories.

Vine is celebrating its first year by encouraging its dedicated users to share their top video loops with the rest of the world using the hashtag #VineBirthday. Users can also view the top Vines picked up by the company over its first successful year in operation.

Vine was founded by Colin Kroll, Rus Yusupov and Dom Hofmann in June 2012, and only months after that Twitter, the popular microblogging service, purchased and launched the first version of its iOS app in January last year. The growing popularity of the app led to Android expansion in June and soon the number of registered users went up from 13 million to over 40 million by August.

"Throughout the year, we've connected with each other and shared spontaneous moments, hilarious jokes, meaningful events and, really, our lives," the company said in a blog post, last week. "To celebrate our first year, we thought we'd share some of the most memorable videos -- those that received a lot of activity (through likes, comments and revines) and those that caught fire around the world."

The Vine team has put together the most memorable videos on its own website, which include videos like Gummy Money, Jesus Take the Wheel and Face Forward and President Obama's message. You can watch the looping videos in the recently introduced full screen TV Mode, as part of its website redesign, with no loops, endless scrolling and stopping.
