The announcement of "Batman vs. Superman" delay has fans asking why a film that was set to begin filming early spring would get pushed back with little notice.

There are many rumors circulating about what happened behind the scenes of the "Man of Steel" sequel: injuries, production issues and a plot revamp to make the "Man of Steel" sequel into a DC "Justice League" film.  However, most reports about the production delay remain unconfirmed.

Below is a list of five possible reasons as to why the film was delayed to May 6, 2016.

1.  The Confirmed Reason For Delay

"Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that the release of Zack Snyder's untitled Superman/Batman film has been moved to May 6, 2016, allowing the filmmakers time to realize fully their vision, given the complex visual nature of the story. The decision was made following the shift of the start of production to second quarter of this year. The Studio has also set a July 17, 2015, worldwide release date for its as-yet-untitled all-new Peter Pan adventure." (Source: Warner Bros. news release)

2.  The Kevin Smith Theory: "Man of Steel: Justice League"

"You've already got Batman, you've got Superman, you've got Wonder Woman," Smith said in his "Fatman on Batman" podcast.  "There's your trinity, right there. Then, there's a rumor that perhaps Aquaman is going to be joining the cast.  And there's a rumor that the John Stewart Green Lantern will be joining the cast. So if that's the case kiddies, smells like we've got ourselves a secret Justice League movie brewing, so good for Zack Snyder and David Goyer." (Read more here)

3.  Turmoil On Set

"One thing I'd like to touch on is the idea that a 10-month delay is in-itself a sign of production turmoil and trouble.  The film may in fact be going through a complete top-down revamp. It may in fact be using every moment of that ten-month delay to whip the project into workable shape. But the fact that it's been delayed 10 months is irrelevant to this notion. Due to the release calendar, even a delay of a couple weeks would have meant a delay of at least ten months." (Source: Forbes)

4.  Another Kevin Smith Theory: Batman Is Hurt

"I also heard that they pushed the shooting because Ben Affleck hurt his leg, while they were shooting or something like that, which I don't know," Smith said in his "Fatman" podcast.  "I just saw him on some awards shows and he didn't look like he had hurt his leg, so maybe that was just a rumor."
