Anywho, as I was saying, "The Originals" took its biggest turn so far. It began with its biggest death of the season - Davina.

Davina began the episode feeling the full effects of her power. As Sophie explained to everyone, Davina was never supposed to hold all the power from the failed harvest. So, if the Harvest was not completed - with Davina's death - then Davina would die anyway and take the French Quarter with her. How you ask? With the help of the elements. As the young witch got worse the elements would also get worse. First came earth, then wind, then water, then fire. Throughout the episode, the Quarter experienced earthquakes, heavy winds and torrential rain. Davina was throwing up dirt and then later threw up water. All the vampires were eventually on board with sacrificing Davina - all of them except Marcel. However, after some convincing from Rebekah, Marcel carried the sick Davina to be sacrificed with the last element - fire - following him as he went to the altar at the graveyard. Sophie performed the final sacrifice, slitting Davina's throat. However, to everyone's dismay, when Sophie called for the girls to come back to life - no one did. Marcel left the graveyard, furious and had to eventually be comforted by Klaus.

Now on to the second half of the twist - the new big bad.

In order to perform the sacrifice Sophie needed the bones of Celeste, Elijah's former love. If you recall at the end of last week's episode, Sophie was able to find Celeste's remains with the help of Hayley. (By the way, Hayley admitted to Elijah that she helped Sophie find those remains by reading Elijah's journals. He was pretty mad at her for most of the episode. However, at the very end he seemed to forgive her and, to the delight of many "Haylijah" fans, they almost kissed.) Sophie brought Celeste's remains to the witches' hideout as Sabine was doing a spell. Sabine explained that she could consecrate Celeste's remains to help complete the harvest with Davina. After using Celeste's magic, Sophie could become an elder - a necessary rank to perform the harvest. However, when Sophie later tried to consecrate the remains, she couldn't. Hmmmm... Elijah who was at the consecration, decided they could use the remains of another powerful witch - his mother. Here was the plan:

The originals would bury their mother on New Orleans ground owned by one of her descendants, making her a New Orleans witch. Since the only living descendant is Hayley's baby, Hayley now owns the plantation. Once buried, the originals could take part in the ancestral magic their mother would provide. However, since they (as vampires) can't perform magic they would transfer it over to Sophie. That would be enough for her to become an elder and complete the harvest. The originals and Hayley gathered at their mother's new grave, put their blood on top of her grave and - with the help of Father Keiran - completed the consecration.

So, since everyone believed everything was in order, there was a huge surprise when the harvest didn't work and the young witches didn't resurrect. Near the end of the episode, Rebekah asked Klaus a pretty important question - Where did all the power go? Afterwards we see three individuals, who look to have been dead, make their way from the graveyard to the French Quarter. They meet at the Quarter and ask each other how they got there. A voice, off camera, explains to them that she called them there. The voice belonged to Sabine. Or as we will now call her - because it's her real name - Celeste. The spell Sophie walked in on seemed to be method Celeste used to gain the power from the Harvest. That means Celeste is as powerful as (or maybe stronger than) Davina and, to make matters worse, she has minions.

So there ya have it, Davina is dead and Celeste is not. Celeste may be the big bad the show needed. Before her arrival it was a lot of in-fighting and although the series has been good, the constant fighting among the originals and those close to them may have grown tiresome on fans. Now, the infighting may continue. But at least there appears to be one bad guy fans can root against.

*As an aside, during the episode Klaus helps Hayley bring non-perishables to the church. There, Father Kieran is providing shelter from the storm to a bunch of people. Hayley was slightly confused by Klaus' generosity. However, Klaus explained that those receiving shelter were werewolves of his clan. Hayley, and most likely viewers, were confused. "The blood that runs in their veins runs in mine, and our child's," he tells Hayley. What did Klaus mean?
