World No. 1 Nadal cruised through the first two rounds to reach the third round.  Nadal won one set against Bernard Tomic before the Australian withdrew because of injury; the Spaniard followed up the next day with a three-set win over Thanasi Kokkinakis.

Although Nadal hasn't struggled in the early rounds of the Aussie Open, he did complain about Melbourne's fast courts.

"I don't know why the people who decide to make the conditions that fast," Nadal said last weekend, via the Oregonian.  "I am not sure for the show is the best thing.  But they decide and I'm just a player to try to be competitive from the beginning."

Monfils, ranked No. 32 in the World, also hasn't dropped a set in his first two matches of the Aussie Open.  The 27-year-old Frenchman defeated Ryan Harrison and Jack Sock for a spot in Saturday's third round.

So far, Monfils is living up to the goals he spoke about earlier this month.

"I have a couple of high goals in mind, you know.  Then, you know, just trying to manage to do it," Monfils said, via CourierMail.  "But for this year I'm just also try to be myself and don't give up, you know, any matches.  ...When you're happy I think you have like positive stuff happen, so, you know, I try to just be happy and don't even think about any negative stuff."

Nadal has won nine of his 11 matches against Monfils, including their last meeting at Doha in 2014.  Monfils's two wins against Nadal came at Doha in 2012 and 2009.
