David Ayer, the filmmaker who directed the Warner Bros. all bad guy DC movie "Suicide Squad," is back in the business of DC comic villains again, this time with yet another twist. He will be reuniting with "Suicide Squad" star Margot Robbie, to film the upcoming "Gotham City Sirens" movie, which is a feature project that will be showcasing the top female villains from the DC Universe.

Ayer will again be directing the entire production, as well as produce the project, while Robbie will be reprising her role as Harley Quinn, the part-time girlfriend of the Joker, and is currently on of DC's most popular female character. At the same time, Robbie is also executively producing the film.

"Gotham City Sirens" was a recent comic series from DC that focused on Batman's popular female villains. Among them were Harley Quinn, Catwoman (who also happens to be Batman love interest), and Poison Ivy. Geneva Robertson-Dworet, a renowned female writer, who has also penned amazing scripts for the Tomb Raider remake and Warner Bros. own Sherlock Holmes 3, is going to be the one writing the screenplay.

Sirens was a no-brainer decision

"Suicide Squad" was a very tough production, with the movie having to undergo some reshoots, but it later turned out fine for everyone involved as it grossed over $745.6 million globally.

According to some rumors, the studio was also developing a Suicide Squad sequel, along with also developing a spinoff featuring Deadshot. But the "Gotham City Sirens" project was the one that pushed through, and with Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn receiving some universal praise, it was a no-brainer decision by the studio.

As of the moment, Warner Bros. doesn't have an exact release date for "Gotham City Sirens", but the project is now underway and we might be having some updates relatively soon.
