Apple has dropped the tvOS 10.1 Beta 5 for those who are enrolled in the Apple Developer Program initiative. If you have a previous beta of tvOS 10.1 installed right now then you can download the latest update over the air.

Apple's fifth beta of tvOS 10.1 is available as an OTA download on Apple TVs with the appropriate configuration profile. The release has comes just a week after beta 4, with only a slightly updated build number (14U593). This is suggesting that the software may be close to ready for public release.

If you already have a tvOS 10 beta installed then you can proceed to System > Software Updates and download away.

Company hasn't announced a public beta for tvOS the way the company has for iOS and macOS. This means until it is released to everyone this fall this update will only available to developers.

It means that installing it on the Apple TV, 4th generation, is more complicated than a simple download and go.

According to Apple Insider, both iOS 10.2 and tvOS 10.1 include a single sign-on support for streaming TV upon the release. This will allow satellite subscribers to access the channels across the multiple platforms without constantly re-authenticating.

If you're a developer and you're having trouble getting the tvOS beta installed, here's what you need to do.

First thing is that you can't back up your Apple TV as other Apple products. Updating over the air only updates the system software; your configurations and apps will remain on your Apple TV as it is.

1.     Switch on your Mac and go to developer.apple.com/download.

2.     Now go to the Settings app from the home screen.

3.     Then scroll down and select the System.

4.     Now select Software Updates and install everything that is available there.

This installation will take a few minutes. You only have to make sure that you do not touch your Apple TV during the installation process. You want everything to go as smoothly as possible.

If you are installing tvOS 10.1 Beta for the first time then you can also grab the IPSW firmware file directly from Apple's Developer Program website. The membership will set you back $99 on an annual basis that is somewhat worth it if you consider yourself an Apple fan, or a developer.

Your Apple TV will now detect tvOS 10.1 and download and install it just like any other update. According to WCCFTech, this update packs nothing more than bug fixes and performance enhancements.

However, if you are installing tvOS 10.1 Beta for the first time, you can expect a brand new TV app gracing your home screen. You also have to keep one thing in mind that this app will work only in the United States as it taps into services that are not available in a lot of regions.
