OnePlus has been rumored to have the successor of its OnePlus 3 smartphone, OnePlus 4. However, fresh news says that OnePlus will bypass the OnePlus 4 will be skipped and company will launch OnePlus 5.

The successor OnePlus 3 will be the OnePlus 5 and not the OnePlus 4, probably because the number 4 is considered unlucky in China as it is symbolic of death.

According to the PhoneRadar, after all, the company has to keep up with its competition as Samsung is rumored to be launching the powerful Galaxy S8, while LG and Xiaomi are introducing the LG G6 and Mi 6, respectively. Interestingly, since the Chinese believe that the number 4 is an unlucky digit so it is rumored that OnePlus is skipping the OnePlus 4 moniker and is instead introducing the OnePlus 5 in 2017.

BBK Electronics is the parent company of OnePlus and also owns the Vivo brand. In the past Vivo too jumped straight from the V3 to V5 model, skipping the V4 smartphone in the process. Therefore, there could be some credibility to the current rumor of OnePlus also skipping the OnePlus 4 and opting for OnePlus 5 instead, reports TechTimes.

The report has also discloses that the OnePlus 5 will take a cue from sibling OnePlus X and sport a ceramic body vis-à-vis a unibody metal design. The OnePlus X was released with zirconia ceramic finish, which was a limited edition from the company.

OnePlus, 5 with its ceramic body, will use a material that has been supplied by the same company which provided ceramic material for the Mi MIX handset from Xiaomi. This company has confirmed that OnePlus is also its client.

Fresh rumors from China are claiming that the OnePlus 5 can be launched with a 5.5-inch Quad HD AMOLED display and a Snapdragon 835 chipset, with a 6GB of RAM. The high end flagship is expected to arrive in the market in Q2 2017.
