Before becoming one of reality television's hottest stars, Kim Kardashian was your average, pretty teen girl with a few famous friends. The 33-year-old recently Instagrammed a photo of her and Nicole Richie at age 13 for "throwback thursday," and you may be surprised to see how different she looks!

"#ThrowbackThursday @nicolerichie and I being oh so cool at 13 years old," Kardashian captioned the picture, featuring her and Richie (in braces with pink bands) giving a thumbs-up to the camera, Kardashian wearing her dark brown hair parted down the middle.

Richie and Kardashian grew up in the same wealthy suburb of Los Angeles, according to the Daily Mail, Kardashian rising to fame after a sex tape scandal with Ray J at the time the star was hanging out with socialite Paris Hilton. In 2007, Kardashian and her family went on to star in their own E! realiy series, "Keeping Up With the Kardashians," which became one of the network's biggest hits and led to two successful spin-offs.

As for Nicole Richie, the adopted daughter of Lionel Richie, the 32-year-old reality star became famous starring in Fox's reality series "The Simple Life" alongside pal Paris Hilton, and went on to guest star in a number of shows, write a semi-autobiographical novel and later married Good Charlotte's Joel Madden.

To this day, Kardashian and Richie remain good friends, though the two have been spending more time with their respective families, especially now that Kardashian has a six-month-old daughter, North West, and an upcoming wedding to Kanye West. Richie also a daughter, five-year-old Harlow, and a four-year-old son named Sparrow.
