It may be just a coincidence. But the two sounds-like city teams made history in the same year. Different sports but are somewhat connected with each other.

The Cleveland Cavaliers just had a magical NBA championship run last June. They just had their first ever NBA championship. First time in the Cavaliers' 46 years of existence in the NBA.

The Chicago Cubs, on the other hand, had just won the World Series title. The last time the Cubs are crowned as World Series champions was in 1908. That's right. The City of Chicago waited 108 years for this to happen.

The similarities of two historic sports teams

The Cleveland Cavaliers and the Chicago Cubs might be two different sports and two different cities. But they are somewhat connected. Aside from the fact that the Cavs and the Cubs have sounds-like team names, here are some other similarities between the two teams.

A cursed city no more

Before the Cleveland Cavaliers raise the Larry O'Brien Championship trophy last June, there was a superstition in sports that the city of Cleveland, Ohio is a cursed city.

Cleveland has currently 3 major league professional sports teams from 1964 to 2016. The Cleveland Cavaliers of the National Basketball Association (NBA), the Cleveland Browns of the National Football League (NFL) and the Cleveland Indians of the Major League Baseball (MLB).

Combining those three major sports teams, and adding former Cleveland Barons of the National Hockey League (NHL), the city suffered an unbelievable 147 championship seasons drought. Not having won a title since 1964, when the Cleveland Browns conquered the NFL by beating the Baltimore Colts in the NFL championship series.

And as we all know, that curse was broken by superhuman LeBron James and the Cavaliers as they beat the Golden State Warriors in a dramatic fashion to claim their first every NBA Championship.

The Chicago Cubs, on the other hand, is also considered a curse city.

According to BBC, bar owner Bill Sianis and his pet goat named Murphy were allegedly removed from the Wrigley Field in 1945 because the goat had an awful smell. Extremely mad of being removed from the stadium, rumors say that Billy said that the Cubs will not win a World Series anymore. That's when the billy goat curse was born.

1945 is the last time the Cubs were playing for a World Series title. They lost the World Series title that year and never went back to contend for a title again.

But the curse has finally been broken when the Cubs claimed their World Series title for the first time in 108 years.

Both teams trailed the championship series 3-1

The Cavaliers trailed the series against the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals. Given the facts that the Warriors made history of their own by becoming the winningest team in NBA regular season history with a record of 73-9, majority of sports analysts and fans thought that the series was over and the Warriors is the sure winner.

Aside from that, in the NBA Finals history, no team trailing by 1-3 managed to win the NBA Championship. But the Cavs surprised the whole world when they beat the Warriors in Game 7 of the NBA Finals.

The Chicago Cubs, on the other hand, was also trailing the series 1-3 to the Cleveland Indians. But they manage to make a comeback, becoming the 6th team in MLB history to win the World Series after trailing the series 1-3.

A close Game 7

Cleveland Cavaliers needed some late game heroics from their Big Three. LeBron James blocked Andre Iguodala's seemingly easy lay-up that could have given the Warriors a slim lead and a momentum late in the game.

With one-minute left in the game and the score was tied, Kyrie Irving made a clutch three-pointer that put the Cavs the lead for good. Kevin Love made the final heroics by not letting the two-time NBA MVP in Stephen Curry tied the game with a three.

The game ended with a score of 93-89. A very close game indeed.

On the other hand, The Chicago Cubs needed an extra inning to claim the World Series title with a score of 8-7. Another close game.

Both teams claim their Game 7 championship victory in the land of the enemy

The Cleveland Cavaliers won the Game 7 of the NBA Finals in the Golden State Warriors' home floor, the Oracle Arena. The Chicago Cubs claimed their World Series title in the Cleveland Indians' home field, the Progressive Field.

Both teams withstood the pressure of playing a crucial Game 7 in the lands of the enemy.

Both teams have a CC initials

Well it is a very minor similarity. But both the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Chicago Cubs have an initial of CC in their team names.

The Cavs and the Cubs are the kings of the sporting world in 2016

The Cleveland Cavaliers is playing in the National Basketball Association while the Chicago Cubs was playing in the Major League Baseball. The Cavs won their NBA championship in June while the Cubs claimed their World Series title this November.

Two historic teams. Different sports. Different cities. They maybe two worlds apart. But somehow, they are connected. Because both the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Chicago Cubs made history in the same year. And they are the sporting world kings for 2016.
