After the introduction of mobile ads, Tumblr announced the launch of a mobile application for Windows Phone 8

The microblogging platform and social networking website Tumblr announced the introduction of mobile ads that would be seen along with blog postings to users on Tuesday.

Less than 24 hours after the announcement, the launched of its mobile application for Windows 8 phones.

"The app is connected to the phone's voice assistant. You can speak your posts and Tumblr will obediently (we hope) record the thoughts," the company said in a statement. "It also shows content from the Tumblrs you follow on the live tiles, or the ever-changing home screen box graphics, as well as the lock screen. Of course, you'll be able view gifs on the app as well as take photos from it."

Tumblr has been heavily ramping up its mobile accessibility. They recently released an update for their Android application that includes a playful revamp to the activities menu.

The website announced the launch of mobile ads on Wednesday and went into effect six years after the company was initially formed. Advertisers like GE, Warner Bros. and ABC will be the first among the lot to post their ads in the regular user stream, which, up until now, contained posts by people a user generally follows.

iOS and Android apps users that use Tumblr on their mobiles will see up to four ads per day, and they'll be differentiated with a dollar-sign icon with beams shooting out, just as they are in the two existing placements. A Tumblr spokesperson said these ads will ultimately migrate to desktop computers but offered no timetable.

The new app for Windows 8 phones is available at the Windows Phone App Store.
