Liz Cheney is reported to announce that she is will be stepping down from the Wyoming Senate primary after a failed attempt at taking three-term veteran Senator Mike Enzi's seat, according to the Associated Press.

Reports from CNN and The New York Times all say an anonymous GOP source has confirmed Cheney will drop out of the race due to alleged family issues, the AP reported. Cheney announced her decision to run this past July through video posted on YouTube.

The daughter of Former Vice President Dick Cheney drew criticism from other Republican Senate members who called her a "carpetbagger" after she moved her family from Virginia to Wyoming in order to run in the Senate primary, according to the AP.

In her first month of campaigning, and with the help of her father, her campaigns pocket's were $1 million full allowing her to release television ads portraying her family as being "deeply rooted" in the state, the Times reported.

This past November, Cheney gained attention again when her lesbian sister Mary publicly confronted her through Facebook for opposing gay rights on her campaign trail even though she had previously supported her sister's choices, CNN reported.

Cheney's campaign was fueled and backed by her father, who represented Wyoming in the Senate for five terms, and strayed from the traditional and conservative primary challenger usually backed by Republican members, CNN reported.

Among other issues Cheney was criticized for during her primary run was for obtaining a state fishing license two months before the one year residency was met as required by the state law, according to CNN.
