Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday told US President Barack Obama to "go to hell" as he accused the U.S. of  refusing to sell military weapons to his country.

Duterte said that he had lost respect for the U.S. as it did not want to sell missiles and other weapons to the Philippines. He added that it does not make any difference because Russia and China are ready to supply arms to Philippine.

But he claimed that Russia and China assured him that they could provide him easily.

"If you don't want to sell arms, I'll go to Russia. I sent the generals to Russia and Russia said 'do not worry we have everything you need, we'll give it to you," Duterte said in his speech.

Washington has been doing its best to ignore Philippine President rhetoric and not provide him with a pretext for more outbursts.

Last week, Duterte wanted to cancel the ongoing joint military exercise with American troops. He earlier showed interest in establishing new trade and commercial alliances with China and Russia.

Duterte had said the drill between the US and the Philippines starting from October 4 and 12 in Luzon and Palawan regions, with the participation of around 2,000 soldiers, will be the last one.

Earlier this month, a defiant Duterte had stoked controversy by cursing U.S. President Barack Obama, and said he would not allow joint patrols of disputed waters near the South China Sea with foreign powers, apparently scrapping a deal his predecessor reached with the US military.

Bilateral relations between U.S and Philippine have deteriorated since Rodrigo Duterte assumed presidency in July and began a violent campaign against drug trafficking, which has left more than 3,500 dead.
