"Star Trek" cast and crew created a Facebook page "Trek Against Trump" and posted an open letter junking the candidacy of Republican candidate Donald Trump while endorsing his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton.

As cited on Yahoo! Movies, the open letter said: "We cannot turn our backs on what is happening in the upcoming election. Never has there been a presidential candidate who stands in such complete opposition to the ideals of the Star Trek universe as Donald Trump."

"His election would take this country backward, perhaps disastrously. We need to elect a president who will move this country forward into the kind of future we all dream of where personal differences are understood and accepted, where science overrules superstition, where people work together instead of against each other."

The signatories to the open letter included executive producer JJ Abrams, and "Star Trek Beyond" directors Simon Pegg and Justin Lin.

It also included "Star Trek" casts Zoe Saldana (Uhura), Chris Pine (Captain James T. Kirk), Zachary Quinto (Spock), George Takei (Hikaru Sulu), Kate Mulgrew (Captain Kathryn Janeway), Jonathan Frakes (Commander William Riker), and Terry Farrell (Jadzia Dax).

According to Entertainment Weekly, "Trek Against Trump" posted an open letter last Thursday, Sep. 29, 2016, to encourage voters to support Clinton over Donald Trump in the upcoming 2016 elections.

The protest post has garnered 8,400 likes, 1,500 comments, and 8,000 shares as of this posting.

"Trek against Trump" Facebook page follows Joss Whedon's high-profile anti-Trump video which featured some key players from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The page is not officially endorsed, sponsored, nor affiliated with the "Star Trek" franchise, Paramount Pictures Corp., and CBS Studios Inc.
